    Go-to places

There are so many places to sit and eat, drink, hang out, and people watch on our walks that you’ll have to do some of your own searches to find what best suits you. However, below are some of our go-to places on this walk:

    • Mona Lisa's -- go to the deli and get one of their amazing Italian subs. We sometimes grab a beer and eat outside on their patio or take it with us and eat somewhere on our walk
    • Little Italy Mercato Farmers' Market -- huge Farmers' Market every Saturday from 8:00 to 2:00 and every Wednesday from 9:30 to 1:30
    • The Crack Shack -- amazing southern California fried chicken and awesome salads and sides

      South Park

      • The Whistle Stop – super cool dive bar with an 80s vs. 90s night that is a blast! Also, if you’re hungry, grab a pizza from Mazara Trattoria across the street and bring it into the Whistle Stop.
      • Subterranean Coffee – little coffee shack with outside seating in the parking lot of Target
      • Grand Ole BBQ Y Asado – amazing BBQ and smoked meats with tasty and unique sides

      Balboa Park

Things we have done, especially when our kids were young, include:

      • Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre
      • Japanese Friendship Garden
      • Fleet Science Center
      • Balboa Park Miniature Railroad
      • San Diego Zoo

Now that our kids are grown, we often will just sit, read, people watch, or just hang out before moving on

      East Village

      • Hodad's Downtown -- awesome burgers, fries, onion rings, and malts
